instructables: ghetto matrix lightwriting special effects

Happy new year all. I've been in Singapore, just hanging out and listening to Indonesian pop songs.

This is brilliant - as a fan of light-writing, I saw this on Instructables and had to share. It's done using 24 ordinary digital cameras strapped to a board. Sweet.

new camera

I'm going on a long holiday soon, so I finally buckled and bought a camera. I got a Lomo LC-A from eBay - the hipster's tool of choice.

I haven't really worked out how to use it yet, but I really like it, and here are my favourite shots I took. It's another of these products that's popular because it harks back to simpler days - it's very mechanical and feels chunky and good.

schmap city guides - harnessing amateur content effectively

GLUE_RABBIT

I got a message via Flickr (a photo sharing website) asking if schamp could use one of my pictures (one I'd taken in Hackney City Farm). As far as I can work out, schmap is a city guide with a map mash-up.

The whole thing is dead smart for 3 reasons:

1. It saves them having to buy photos or pay people to take them
2. They had a very slick system where I could just click to say if I was ok with them using the picture or not
3. I am now definitely going to tell people about my picture being used on schmap, which gives them a powerful boost to their for word-of-mouth activity

slow exposure photography plus moving light from a mobile phone

My flatmate Stuart and some others from glue pioneered this technique of waving a mobile phone light around a subject whilst shooting on slow exposure. I don't know what the name for this type of photography is, but it we all had fun shooting in our kitchen with Hal's camera. More pics soon.
