LONDON, 29th november 2006: BA poison scare

Sometimes, when I take a free paper and glance at the headline, I don't even know what it's about. And sometimes I would prefer not to know, or to make something up.

boutique charities

Having started a charity initiative at work, I was looking for a charity to donate to. I just really wanted to help cute animals. I'm sorry, I'm a bit shallow.

But anyway there's nothing really out there. As people want more and more niche stuff, and are willing to bring a little indulgence into different bits of their lives, there's an opportunity for things like charities to cater to want they want a bit more, and still do (questionably) good things.

"stuff you get caught looking at" at work

I am lucky to work in a place where pretty much everything I surf on the Internet is research. However, at 9:30 on Thursday, I had this on screen and was drooling slightly. How embarassing.

JD sports shoe medallions

JD sports medallion

At JD sports, when they have an exclusive shoe, it gets a little medallion. I wonder if kids ever keep these on? Or what they do with the medallions afterward?

If they just made them a little bit nicer/cleverer/something that kids really want, that would be yet another reason to go get your shoes from there. A kind of sneaky, classy?! version of cereal box free gifts.

I remember in my first job out of uni, someone told me "Retail is all in the detail." It only shows up 2 times pn the whole of the web on Google, so I thought I would repeat it here.

big cardboard dia de los muertos skull thing

big cardboard Dia de los Muertos halloween skull thing!

We recently had a Dia de los Muertos party at ours in Hackney. The whole thing was heaps of fun, and my favourite bit was the fact that we got everyone to paint a little bit of this big skull we made out of cardboard and duct tape. It wasn't finished til 3am, by which point noone was in a good state to wear it, but it looked brilliant none the less.

I really like making things out of cardboard.

Pics and vid of the party here:

hackney brunch club

brunch_club

Bit of grandiose title, but essentially the idea is to meet in Hackney for some brunch, with the aim of maybe making it regular and getting a local area vibe going.

First meeting is The Mess Cafe, Amhurst Road, near Hackney Central. 11 AM prompt, Saturday 4th Nov 2006.

All welcome!
