Cyberhand Technologies Spam
I've recently been getting quite a lot of unsolicited emails which have random subject lines like
woke evil -
and
parasite office -
Anyway, the emails consist of a gif image of text, which is a press release about a new defence technology and driving you to Yahoo! financial and read up on Cyberhand Technologies.
My reason behind creating this post is to see if there are any people out there who are utterly bemused by this marketing as I am - normally spam has a direct response element, so people can see it's working - but this doesn't. If they can somehow measure the uplift on stock price/buy/sell activity from this email campaign, then they are the most sophisticated econometric modellers on the planet.
Otherwise they're simply trusting spam to do a brand job.
Anyway I'd love to know if there are people out there who:
a) have been annoyed by these emails
b) have been bemused and kind of enjoyed the emails
c) have looked up Cyberhand Technologies
d) have wanted to buy Cyberhand Technologies stock as a result
e) wtf
Please comment on this post with your opinions.

Yup. The joys of spam. I love a good bit of spam. Especially the ones that seem so odd, so mysterious that they can't actually ever be doing anything meaningful. Perhaps it's the work of aliens from other worlds trying to see if there really is life on other planets, who knows?
Are you sure the the link wasn't something that went through a redirector? Or in some way just validated the fact that your harvested (or randomly generated) email address is active?
No matter how curious you are, never, ever, click on the link ;-)
yeah, seriously! If you try Google them they are listed (amongst other) under companies trying to raise their stock price via spam marketing techniques. It's absolutely bemusing.
Seeing as they sell technologies designed to KILL PEOPLE, maybe not so surprising htey have no qualms about using spam...

This spam came to my editor's account on my university server. (I'm an editor for a campus lit mag.) The subject line had a string of words in quotes that I thought were short-story submissions. "Thrombosis" and so forth, very odd, sort of curious juxtapositions or free associations. So I opened it and was met with, you know, that strange gif image a-twirl with tropical-skittle colors, and strings of sentences below it. What is happening here?
Here's one I received today 1/26/08 Also has anyone found their stock OTCPink CYHA?
I assert that the anger can't touch me when i'm fully alert.
A great piece of art like Van Gogh's "Starry Night" or one of Turners paintings does the same thing for me. The enclosed material will provide you with information regarding play roulette and the process by which you can have your son enrolled at pl.

a) have been annoyed by these emails
I have been getting lots of junk email using this style. Most of them are automatically generated incoherant emails designed to bypass junk mail filters. I get over 2000 emails a day and only a max of 15 are genuine, most of which are automatically sent by my websites to report on their daily activity.
The email I received today is slightly bemusing as it mentions what seems to be protesting and it seems to be focused on anti war. See for yourself, here are some text excerpts of the email:
'This isn't like Iraq where we could just knock up a dossier proving the regime has, say, a nuclear weapons program.
The Australian driving public was vocal on talk-back radio, scathing in letters to the editor, vitriolic and cutting in their deconstruction of the motives of oil moguls, Sheikhs, and executives.

This, however, is not support for attacks on innocents, or non-combatants of any kind.

I have checked their website and it is very badly designed. They seem to be a company run from someones bedroom. They have blue hyperlinks on a blue background for example.
They also offer a rather strange product: Cyberhand Spider USB Games Controller! Cyberhand provides you a new experience playing your favourite game. Cyberhand's ergonomic design gives you a physical advantage to play faster, longer and helps you get better scores. Your 3 dimensional world is now at your finger tips.
WTF???
But more strangely, the domain cyberhand.com was registered on godaddy.com using the following DNS servers:
NS1.CANSCANIMAGING.COM
NS2.CANSCANIMAGING.COM
CANSCANIMAGING.COM has the same design style as cyberhand.com and the web address mentioned below.
But when you look deeper you will find that the cyberhand.com website has a registered admin and technical contact of:
Administrative Contact:
burke, patrick canscan@kootenaycable.com
old nurses residence bed and breakfast
802 4th ave
box 2847
fernie, British Columbia v0b 1m0
Canada
2504233091
(note that kootenaycable.com is his ISP and old nurses residence bed and breakfast is obviously his home address I would assume)
Technical Contact:
burke, patrick pburke@oldnurse.com
old nurses residence bed and breakfast
802 4th ave
box 2847
fernie, British Columbia v0b 1m0
Canada
2504233091
(notice the pburke@oldnurse.com email address matching his snail mail address. oldnurse.com has the matching address that he used to registered cyberhand.com)
So, it seems that they are a scam company. I would be highly supprised if they actually are involved in technology in any sense. If you create a company and get on the stock market you can send out billions of spam emails from an alternate address to boost the worth of your company. As you would deny any knowledge of these spam emails you can completely lie about what the company does. the truth could well be that the company does nothing at all.
Also interesting to note is: Effective April 05, 2007, Cyberhand Technologies International Inc. will change its OTCPK stock ticker symbol to CYHA from CYHD.
The email from them dated Feb 14th states their stock ticker to be CYHA and not the mentioned CYHD. Could this small website be posing as a huge floated company using their old ticker code? Who knows.
Ive just read my previous post and realized i'm talking crap. Ignore it.
But still, could this company being run from a bed and breakfast really be making weapons and technologies to kill? Seems very unlikely. It seems like a scam
